2025 Spring League - Softball (Girls only)

Priority Registration opens November 1, 2024, and closes on the following dates for each division:

AAA, Majors, Juniors, and Seniors: January 15, 2025
AA: January 31, 2025
A: February 28, 2025

Players that register after these dates may be placed on a wait list and are not guaranteed a spot.

A 10% Early Bird discount will be applied to any registrations prior to December 1, 2024.

For families registering multiple players, RUG offers a $500 family out-of-pocket maximum.

Eligibility Requirements

BIG CHANGE FOR 2025: Players at the youngest levels of Little League Baseball and Softball (League Ages 4-7) now have the ability to register for any Little League they choose, without respect to any geography- or school-related eligibility requirements. Players who register under this option will be fully eligible to participate in all aspects of league play, including All-Stars, for the duration of their Little League careers provided they have continuous and unbroken participation with the specific league where they initially registered and provided all other participation eligibility requirements have been met.

All other players League Age 8-16 will continue to utilize the current boundary requirement based on residency or school enrollment. For more information on league eligibility requirements, please visit Establishing Player Eligibility in a Local Little League.

Which Division should my child play in?

Your child's "Little League Age" determines which division(s) they are eligible for, along with skill level, experience, and where friends are playing. Please visit this webpage to determine your child's League Age.

Generally speaking, Tee Ball and Baseball Divisions are broken down as follows:

A: League Ages 6-8
AA: League Ages 8-9
AAA: League Ages 9-11
Majors: League Ages 11-12
Juniors: League Ages 13-14
Seniors: League Ages 15-16

When you go to register, you will only see the divisions your player is eligible to play in according to League Age. If you would like to request your player to "move up" a division, or have any questions about which division your child should play in, please contact [email protected]. Requests to "move down" are rarely granted, out of concern for the safety of younger players.

Registration Refund Policy

Full or partial refunds are available for any registered players as follows:

AAA, Majors, Juniors, and Seniors Divisions

Full refund minus $10 processing fee prior to February 1, 2025
80% refund prior to team's first practice
50% refund prior to team's first game
No refund after team's first game

AA and A Divisions

Full refund minus $5 processing fee prior to March 1, 2025
80% refund prior to team's first practice
50% refund prior to team's first game
No refund after team's first game

Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis, including injuries, relocation, etc.

Scholarships

It is RUG's belief that every child should have the opportunity to play baseball or softball regardless of their family's financial situation. A Softball: Coach Pitch (League Ages 6-8)

The A Softball division is a developmental, non-competitive introduction to girl’s softball. Coach or other parent pitches to own team. Teams bat a continuous order and every player bats each inning. Players all play equal amount and rotate through all defensive positions. Games are typically 3-4 innings, time permitting. Later in the season, teams that are up for it may introduce more competition by playing 3-outs per inning and keeping score, which may allow for more innings in a game. Scores are not officially kept.

Player assessments are not held for this division as they are for the Majors and AAA softball divisions. Players are grouped onto teams by school, neighborhood, and teammate requests.

PLEASE NOTE: This is not a drop-off program. Parents and/or older sibling are expected to help during games and at practices, especially at this level.

AGES: 7-and 8-year-old girls, and some 6-year-olds. Players must be at least 6-years-old as of 12/31/2024.

ELIGIBLE BIRTHDAY RANGE: 1/1/2016 to 12/31/2018. If your child’s birthday is outside of this date range and they wish to play in this division, please contact the RUG registrar at [email protected] for assistance.

PRACTICES: 1-2 per week from mid-March until games begin in mid-April. Expect two practices/week: one weeknight and one Saturday (Sundays possible too). Practices are scheduled by the head coach based on field availability. While it is up to individual teams, practices typically end once the regular season games begin.

GAME SCHEDULE: 10 game season with 1-2 games/week. Games are usually on Saturdays (start times range from 9am to 4pm), and occasionally on Tuesdays. Games start in mid-April and run through early June. Expect schedule to be released in mid-March.

LOCATIONS: Home games are played at Maple Leaf, Ravenna, Green Lake and Pinehurst. Interleague away games are played at fields throughout North Seattle.

UNIFORMS & GEAR: Full uniforms are provided including jersey, pants, and visor. League provides team bats, helmets, catcher's gear, and balls. Players need to provide their own mitt and shoes. Cleats are optional.

FIELD SIZE: Fields are pegged with 60' between bases, but throw down bases may be used at 50' for this division.

ROSTER: 10-12 players on a roster, girls only. Players are grouped onto teams by school, neighborhood, and teammate requests. If you would like your daughter to be placed on a team with a specific coach or friend, please specify this during the registration process. We will do our best to accommodate requests.

AA Softball: Player/Coach Pitch (League Ages 8-9)

AA softball is hybrid player/coach-pitch division using an 11-inch softball and umpires record balls, strikes, and outs. Each team gets the standard 3-outs per inning, and games may last up to 6 innings, but often end after 3-4 because of time.

RUGLL encourages players to be hitters, and does not play with walks. If a batter receives 3 balls, a coach or parent from the same team will come in to pitch. Scores and standings are recorded on the league website with playoffs at the end of the season.

Player assessments are not held for this division as they are for the Majors and AAA softball divisions. Players are grouped onto teams by school, neighborhood, and teammate requests.

AGES: 8- and 9-year-old girls. Players must be at least 8-years-old as of 12/31/2024.

AAA Softball: Player Pitch (League Ages 9-11)

The AAA Softball division uses an 11-inch ball and is both instructional and competitive with more emphasis on instructional than competition during the regular season. The goal is to prepare players for advancement to the Majors division.

The season culminates in a season-ending District 8 Tournament of Champions. Regular season includes interleague play vs. teams in surrounding leagues such as Northwest Seattle LL, North Central LL, Ballard LL, Shoreline LL, and more.

**In order to create balanced teams and ensure proper division placement, a player assessment will be held at Jane Addams Middle School on February 1, 2025. Players must attend this assessment. Specific time slots are to be determined and will be communicated closer to the date.**

AGES: 10- and 11-year-old girls. 9-year-olds may play at this level if they have played at least one year of AA Softball and are recommended by a previous coach or the player agent to play at the AAA level. Girls must be at least 9-years-old as of 12/31/2024.

The Majors division uses a 12-inch ball and is both instructional and competitive with more emphasis on the competitive aspects of the game than at the AAA division. Managers focus on fielding a competitive team while also providing the players with a fun learning experience. Players should focus on refining their softball skills with a strong emphasis on consistency. Often the difference between an average player and a good player is the ability to consistently execute the required skills.

Scores and standings are recorded on the league website. The season culminates in a season-ending District 8 Tournament of Champions in late May-early June. Regular season includes interleague play vs. teams in surrounding leagues such as Northwest Seattle LL, North Central LL, Ballard LL, Shoreline LL, and more.

AGES: 11- and 12-year-old girls. All 12-year-olds will be selected to play in the Majors division unless a safety issue exists as determined by the Player Agent or League President. There may be an option for 10-year-olds to play at this level if they have played at least one year in the AAA division and are recommended by a previous coach or the player agent. League age is determined by age on 12/31/2024.

Juniors Softball (League Ages 13-14)

Competitive softball between North Seattle leagues. While baseball goes to a 90' diamond, softball remains on a 60' diamond making fast-pitch softball at this level one of the most exciting games available.

Scores and standings are recorded on the league website. The season culminates in a season-ending District 8 Tournament of Champions from late May to early June. Regular season includes interleague play vs. teams in surrounding leagues such as Northwest Seattle LL, North Central LL, Ballard LL, Shoreline LL, and more.

Due to lower enrollment numbers in past years, it is likely that players registered through RUG will be combined with a neighboring Little League. However, you should still register with RUG if you live within the RUGLL boundary.

No on-field player evaluation is required for this division.

AGES: 13- and 14-year-old girls. Players must be at least 13 as of 12/31/2024.

ELIGIBLE BIRTHDAY RANGE: 1/1/20010 to 12/31/2011. If your child’s birthday is outside of this date range and they wish to play in this division, please contact the RUG registrar at [email protected] for assistance.

PRACTICES: 2-3 per week from early March until games begin in mid- to late-March. Practices are scheduled by the coach based on field availability. Expect 1-2 weekday evening practices and one on Saturday (Sundays possible too). Once games begin, teams may still meet for one practice during the week.

GAME SCHEDULE: 18 game season with 2 games per week on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Games begin in mid- to late-March and run through early June. Each game is limited to 2 hours, or 7 innings.

Expect schedule to be released in early March.

LOCATIONS: Games are played at fields throughout North Seattle.

FIELD SIZE: 60' between bases and 43' pitching rubber.

ROSTER: 12-14 players on a roster, girls only. Teams are formed through a draft process in late February. New players to the league are evaluated for appropriate placement and competitiveness. RUG softball players will mostly likely combine with North Seattle Little League teams. If you have a specific request for your daughter to be placed on a team with another player or coach, please specify this in your registration. We will do our best to accommodate requests.

Seniors Softball (League Ages 15-16)
