Our Washington District 8 Challenger Division was started in 1991 by Gary and Bev Newsome to give children with intellectual and physical disabilities a chance to play ball. Today, the program flourishes with six teams totaling almost 100 players throughout the greater Seattle area. The program is supported by the 12 Little Leagues making up Washington District 8, as well as the Seattle Mariners, who continue to create special memories for these players.
Our 2019 WA District 8 Challenger season will start with practices in mid-April. Games will run twice per week from May 1st through mid-June, culminating in an end-of-the season jamboree held at Northshore Athletic Fields (NAF) in Woodinville.
Registration for our 2019 Little League Challenger season is now open at www.llwadistrict8.org. For questions regarding this year’s program, please contact Bev Newsome at (360) 805-0181 or
Sponsorship Opportunites to Promote Your Business
RUG Little League is looking for local businesses to sponsor an individual team and, in turn, the league. A $500 commitment sponsors one team and provides:
RUGLL sweatshirts for all the players on a team with your business logo prominent on the back
Sponsor banners that travel with your team to all games
Team photo plaque to hang in your place of business, and more.
Sponsors may sponsor multiple teams and your support helps provide scholarships for players in need, with field rentals, coach/player training, uniform enhancements, etc. Check out our fundraising flyer and contact us at

For 75 years, Little League® has established a proud, rich history in the hearts and minds of generations of Little Leaguers. Since its founding in 1939, Little League has nurtured the human spirit, and that is why it has been universally successful in cities and towns throughout the world.
RUG (Roosevelt-University-Greenlake) Little League was originally chartered in the 1950s. Since that time thousands of boys and girls have been taught how to play baseball and experienced the joy of competition on the baseball diamond. Neighborhood demographics have changed over the years but the boundaries and mission of RUG remain the same.
Our goal is to provide a strong foundation of fundamental baseball skills in a team environment that will ultimately result in success on the field and enjoyment of the sport. Our coaching program is designed to provide consistent teaching methods for players aged 4-18. As a player progresses from tee ball, through coach pitch and on into kid pitch they will hear the same teaching points on how to develop their swing, field and throw a baseball. When players hear the same message(s) from a variety of coaches at all levels of play they are better able to develop a skill-set that will consistently bring success on the field of play.
